Planning A Home Remodel - Our Methodology

“Proper Planning Prevents Poor Performance”.

At RENOVATION NATION, we take Project Planning & Management seriously. Following NARI standards, our experienced team, led by a Certified Remodeling Project Manager (CRPM), ensures every project runs smoothly. We work closely with our clients to create a clear, efficient plan that brings their vision to life.

The NARI remodeling project planning process follows a structured approach to ensure high-quality, professional, and efficient home renovation. The methodology is designed to improve communication, minimize risks, and deliver successful remodels.

This page outlines the NARI project planning process:

1. Project Discovery & Initial Consultation

Objective: Understand client needs and establish feasibility.

  • Conduct initial client meeting to discuss goals, vision, and budget.
  • Assess existing conditions of the home (structural, electrical, plumbing).
  • Define project feasibility based on scope, budget, and local building codes.
  • Establish a realistic timeline and discuss financing options.
  • Provide rough cost estimates and discuss expectations.

2. Design & Planning Phase

Objective: Develop detailed designs and finalize the project scope.

  • Work with architects/designers to create conceptual drawings.
  • Select materials, fixtures, finishes, and other design elements.
  • Develop construction drawings and obtain engineering approvals (if needed).
  • Finalize detailed cost estimates and timeline.
  • Secure necessary permits and regulatory approvals.

3. Pre-Construction Preparation

Objective: Organize resources and prepare for a smooth remodeling process.

  • Finalize contracts with contractors, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Order and procure materials in advance to avoid delays.
  • Develop a construction schedule with milestones.
  • Prepare the home:
    • Establish dust containment measures.
    • Protect furniture and non-remodeled areas.
    • Set up temporary utilities if needed.
  • Communicate remodeling impact to the homeowner (noise, disruption, timelines).

4. Construction & Execution

Objective: Carry out remodeling activities with efficiency and quality control.

  • Demolition & Site Preparation: Remove old materials safely.
  • Structural Modifications (if applicable): Reinforce or rebuild key areas.
  • MEP Work (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing): Upgrade and install systems.
  • Framing, Drywall, & Insulation: Build new walls and partitions.
  • Installation Phase:
    • Flooring, cabinets, countertops, fixtures.
    • Painting, trim work, and finishing touches.
  • Conduct quality checks and milestone inspections throughout construction.

5. Final Walkthrough & Handover

Objective: Ensure quality, resolve issues, and complete the project.

  • Conduct final inspections (building codes, safety, quality).
  • Create a punch list of minor adjustments or touch-ups.
  • Complete final cleaning and prepare for occupancy.
  • Conduct a client walkthrough to review the work and ensure satisfaction.
  • Provide warranty documents, maintenance guidelines, and care instructions.

6. Post-Project Support & Follow-Up

Objective: Maintain long-term client satisfaction and project quality.

  • Address any warranty issues or post-construction concerns.
  • Offer follow-up services (seasonal maintenance, periodic check-ins).
  • Request client feedback and reviews for continuous improvement.
